The VW Golf R 400 (pictured) may not actually be an R 400
The Beijing Motor Show last month saw the debut of the VW Golf R 400, an extreme take on the VW Golf R with a full 400 PS (395bhp) at its disposal. When Volkswagen revealed the R 400 as a concept we did note that it looked more production-ready than concept, and it took VW less than a week to confirm that the Golf R 400 was indeed heading for production. Now, just to muddy the waters a bit (or raise expectations), VW’s R&D chief Heinz-Jakob Neusser has said that when the Golf R 400 does arrive it could well be with more than 400PS.
MINI London 2012 Edition - in patriotic red, white or blue
The launch of the MINI London 2012 Edition to celebrate the Olympic Games neatly pulls together two of MINI’s marketing tactics; shove out as many limited edition models as you can and give them a London theme. True, this edition of the MINI uses the London moniker intact instead of using a badge from a London area, but it’s consistent with the current MINI special edition target. As is MINI’s aim to cash in on any bit of publicity it can – sometimes tenuously – get a hook on.
Woody checks out the Peugeot 5008
Peugeot are planning a big advertising splash in Europe, and have teamed up with Pixar/Disney to use well known characters from the Toy Story films in the ads, which are due to roll out across Europe from this week. The firts advert up is for the Peugeot 5008, a more than competent people shifter from Peugeot (in fact those nice people at Peugeot are due to send us one soon, so look out for a proper in-depth review and road test on the 5008 as we spend a week with it). The advert uses Woody looking for his Cowboy hat to give the excuse to show every nook and cranny and seat shifting trick the 5008 can manage.
